Insights and dashboards
Trends, funnels, retention and paths, saved to dashboards and shared through public links.
Insights answer the questions the Overview doesn't. Open Insights in the sidebar: Saved lists what your team has saved, and the four builders sit under it: Trends, Funnels, Retention and Paths. Results update as you change the query, and every builder can download its result as CSV.
Trends
Trends chart any event over time. Add up to five series; each one is an event (or all events) with a metric:
| Metric | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Total count | How many times the event happened. |
| Unique users | How many different people did it. |
| Daily active users | People who did it that day. |
| Weekly active users | People who did it in the 7 days up to each day (rolling). |
| Monthly active users | People who did it in the 30 days up to each day (rolling). |
| Sum of property | The total of a numeric event property, such as revenue or coins. |
| Average of property | The average of a numeric event property. |
Around the series:
- Breakdown splits each series by one property: an event property, the event name, or a device field like platform, app version, OS, browser, device type or country.
- Filters keep only matching events (equals, contains, greater than, is set…).
- Range and interval: from the last 24 hours to the last 365 days, or a custom range, by hour, day, week or month. Daily, weekly and monthly active users are computed per day.
- Compare overlays the previous period of the same length.
- Show the result as a line or bar chart, or as a table.
Funnels
A funnel shows where people drop off between steps. Add 2 to 8 steps; each is a custom event or a page (or screen) view, with * as a wildcard (/blog/*). Steps count in order: a person reaches step 3 only after steps 1 and 2.
- Conversion window: people must finish every step within 1, 3, 7 (the default), 14 or 30 days of the first one.
- For each step you get the people who reached it, the conversion from the start and from the previous step, how many dropped, and the median time it took from the previous step.
- View it as a flow or as bars, over the last 7, 30, 90 or 365 days or a custom range.
Retention
Retention shows who comes back. Pick what puts someone in a cohort (any event, a specific event, or a page), and what counts as coming back. People are grouped by the day, week or month they did the first action, and each row shows how many of them came back in each following period. The bottom row averages all cohorts, weighted by their size.
| Counted | Who joins a cohort |
|---|---|
| First time | Each person joins once, in the period they first did it: your new users. |
| Recurring | Each person joins every period in which they did it. |
Choose how many cohorts to show, ending with the current period.
Paths
Paths show the routes people take within a session. Start from the beginning of each session, from a page or screen, or from an event, and follow up to 8 steps. Choose what counts as a step: pages and events, only pages and screens, or only events. The same step repeated in a row counts once. The most common steps at each depth are shown, and the rest are grouped as "Other". Below the chart, the most common complete paths are listed.
Saving insights
Click Save insight and give it a name and an optional description. Saved insights live in the project, so everyone on the team can open them from Insights → Saved. When you change a saved insight, it shows "unsaved changes" until you save or discard them.
Anyone on the team can save insights. Members can edit and delete the ones they created; owners and admins can edit and delete any. See Roles.
Dashboards
Dashboards put saved insights side by side: one page per question your team keeps asking.
- Open Dashboards in the sidebar and create one with a name.
- Pin saved insights onto it (up to 40). Trends, funnels, retention and paths all work.
- Make a tile half or full width, move it earlier or later, or unpin it.
- Deleting a dashboard keeps the insights that were on it.
Every member can create dashboards and change their own. Owners and admins can change any dashboard.
Sharing publicly
To show your numbers to people outside the team (investors, a public stats page), create a public link in the project's Settings → Sharing & alerts. Anyone with the link sees a live, read-only copy of the Overview: the headline numbers, chart and breakdowns, with ranges and filters. They never see individual people or customers, and they don't need an account.
- Give each link a name, so you know who it's for.
- Add an optional password (at least 6 characters). Viewers enter it once per browser session.
- Revoke a link at any time: it stops working right away.
Max plan
Public links are part of Max. Only owners and admins can create, see and revoke them. See Plans and usage or the pricing.
